Music – Elementary School

Music is incorporated daily into the Montessori curriculum.  Not only do students utilize music in the classroom, but music is also offered through a weekly music class as well as private lessons.  The teachers model the music work (i.e. hand movements, instruments etc) while the students observe.  Reinforcement through routine and repetition allows the students to absorb the work at their own pace.  The students then “share” their knowledge by performing their music, in an informal or formal setting.

Montessori Harbor Mesa encourages the students to share all that they have learned at school, putting on small performances during the school year for family and friends to enjoy.  During the holidays, the children learn special songs relating to the occasion, and some patriotic songs. Using a musical apparatus called the Bells, the child will learn to recognize and match notes, to recognize the treble clef, the bass clef, and may learn to play simple songs.
